ICMI Revives Scientific Activities At Islamic Academic Environmen

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Indonesian Association of Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI) plans to revive science-based activities at Islamic campuses and universities. The statement was voiced by ICMI chairman Jimly Asshiddiqie during his meeting with President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, January 23, 2017.

“We want to revive science activities at Islamic campuses through the science perspective, we’ll promote knowledge with a moral perspective,” Jimly said at a press conference after the meeting.

Accompanying Jimly at the meeting were ICMI members, Priyo Budi Santoso, Muhammad Qodari, and Firdaus Djaelani. Presidnet Jokowi was accompanied by State Secretariat Minister Pratikno.

One of the reasons behind the plan is to prevent irrational behaviors that are currently emerging at campus environments.

ICMI’s meeting with the President was also to report the results of ICMI’s National Work Gathering held in December 2016. The event was inaugurated by Vice President Jusuf Kalla and attended by a number of ICMI members across Indonesia.

Jimly also presented ICMI agendas that in relation to leadership trainings, either political or business-oriented.
