TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Business players and the government have been urged to stay alert of the restrictive policies in the form of non-tariff barriers for Indonesia’s palm oil commodities following the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump.
Mohammad Faisal, Executive Director of the Center of Reform on Economics (CORE) said several Indonesia’s export products that have import substitution in the US such as palm oil are likely to be affected by restrictive policies.
“There are in fact many and non-tariff barriers in the US,” Faisal said on Saturday.
Based on the report released by the World Trade Organization (WTO), the US currently has 4,780 non-tariff barriers while Indonesia only has 272 non-tariff barriers.
In the meantime, data from the Trade Ministry shows that in 2016, the volume of Indonesia export reached 25.7 tons or dropped by 2 percent.
