Abu Sayyaf Kidnaps Three Indonesians in Malaysian Waters

TEMPO.CO, Makassar - National Police personnel at the Indonesian Consulate General in Tawau, East Malaysia, reported on Friday, January 20, 2017, that three Indonesian nationals from South Sulawesi have been kidnapped by Philippine militant group Abu Sayyaf.
South Sulawesi Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Dicky Sondai said that his institution immediately contacted families of the victims after receiving the report.
“We received a report that Indonesian citizens from South Sulawesi were kidnapped by a Philippine separatist group in East Malaysian waters,” Dicky said on Friday, January 20, 2017.
According to him, two of the three Indonesian citizens were identified as Hamdan and Sudarling from Kepulauan Selayar regency.
“Sudarling is Hamdan’s nephew,” Dicky explained.
The other victim was identified as Subandri from Bulukumba Regency. The three victims went missing when they were on a fishing boat in the Malaysian waters.
Selayar Police Precinct chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Eddy Suryanta Tarigan explained that his institution has notified families of the victims in relation to the incident. Eddy explained that three crews of fishing boat Sandakan BN 838/4/F have been kidnapped by the same group operating in South Philippines. The situation was revealed when a boat was found without crew heading to the Taganak Waters in South Philippine.
Earlier, the Abu Sayyaf group kidnapped 10 crews of Brahma motor boat 12. Of the 10 crews, three of them are from South Sulawesi.
