Surabaya Immigration Office Nabs Seven Chinese Nationals

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Surabaya Immigration Office has arrested seven Chinese nationals working in an iron and steel company in Sidoarjo, East Java, for misusing their residence permit.
Surabaya Immigration Office director Agus Widjaya on Wednesday said that they are machinery technicians and has no special skills.
“They were arrested by immigration officers on Operasi Waspada [literally means Operation Vigilant] targeting foreign companies in Sidoarjo as the end of the year draws near,” he said.
He explained that the immigration office also conduct inspection to restaurants, night clubs and residential complexes that house foreign nationals.
Moreover, immigration officers found 23 Chinese nationals in the company, only 16 of them hold limited residence permit.
“Whereas, the seven men only hold B211 tourist visas issued by the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing and arrived [in Indonesia] through Juanda Airport [of Surabaya],” he said.
