TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bogor Botanical Gardens recorded 9,372 domestic and foreign visitors during the long weekend on December 10 and 11, 2016.

"The number of visitors on Sunday was higher at 6,438 people, while that on Saturday was 2,934 people," Bogor Botanical Gardens service supervisor Upun Punijar said as quoted by Antara on Monday, December 12, 2016.

Upun explained that the visitors on Saturday consisted of 2,912 domestic tourists and 22 foreign tourists. On Sunday, the number increased to 6,438 visitors, comprising of 6,399 domestic tourists and 39 foreign tourists.

"On Sunday, there was the 2016 Indonesian Fruit Carnival, and the number of visitors soared than the day before. We had to limit the number of vehicles entering the venue," Upun added.

Upun said that the Bogor Botanical Garden is the center of plants conservation and tourist destination, as well as a research center for foreign and domestic researchers. Due to its accessibility, the Bogor Botanical Gardens has been an alternative destination for Bogor residents and those from Jakarta, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi.

Upun revealed that the existence of the Bogor Presidential Palace boosted improvements around the botanical gardens, including bridge renovation near Jalan Astrid. In addition, several spots in the lake, running tracks and park benches near the jetty separating the botanical gardens and the Bogor Palace had been renovated.
