TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Police said they have identified involvement of activist Hatta Taliwang in attempted coup, over which police has named eight suspects. Jakarta Metro Police chief Insp. Gen. Mochamad Iriawan said that Hatta’s involvement was evident in a picture of a meeting obtained by police.
“There was a role in a meeting, there is a clear photograph of him [of Hatta Taliwang],” Iriawan said in Ancol, North Jakarta on Friday, December 9, 2016. Irianto said that Jakarta Metro Police investigators arrested Hatta on Thursday, December 8, at 1:30 am. He has allegedly violated Articles 107 and 110 of the Criminal Code on treason.
Iriawan said that police have seized documents indicating Hatta Taliwang’s involvement. Further information on the case will be revealed to the public after police examine the evidence they seized. “We will explain it after a thorough examination of the documents,” Iriawan said.
Aside from treason, Hatta has also been charged under Information and Electronic Transactions Law (UU ITE). Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Comr. Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono on Thursday, December 8, said that Hatta has been charged under Article 28 (2) in conjunction with Article 45 (2) of Law No. 11/2008.
Hatta wrote a Facebook status about ethnicities and religion, known as SARA, that was deemed provocative. Argo said police have seized evidence, such as cell phones, books, and diaries belonging to Hatta over the allegations.
