TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Japan's Foreign Affairs Minister Fumio Kishida sent his condolence for Pidie Jaya District, Aceh, after the region hit by a devastating 6.5 magnitude earthquake. Kishida’s message was sent to Indonesia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Retno Marsudi.
“I would like to express my deepest condolence to the Government and the people of Indonesia following the earthquake in Aceh,” Kishida wrote in his message on Thursday, December 8, 2016.
A 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit Pidie Jaya District, Aceh, on Wednesday 7, 2016, at around 05.30 a.m. local time. The earthquake's epicenter was at the depth of 10 kilometers on land, at the coordinates of 5.19 North Latitude and 96.36 East Longitude.
So far, it is reported that as many as 94 people were killed, one person still reported missing, 128 people seriously wounded, and 489 people suffer minor injuries. The earthquake also ruined 105 shops, 86 hospitals, and 13 mosques at the District.
Kishida said the Japanese Government is ready to provide help if Indonesian Government request. "I wish the people affected by the earthquake can recover again soon."
Kishida also hopes the recovery process on the damaged regions can immediately take effect.
