TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The name Hatta Taliwang suddenly went under intense probe by the Police following a recent arrest of 10 individuals for suspected treason. Hatta Taliwang was suspected to be involved in a conspiracy to topple President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's government. Hatta was arrested in the Bendungan Hilir Flat on Thursday, December 8, 2016.

The Police immediately named Hatta as a suspect in the alleged conspiracy to topple the legitimate government as regulated in Articles 107, 110, and 86 of the Criminal Code.

Chief of Public Information of the National Police Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompul said that the arrest was made in accordance with a previous statement made by the Police. The Police stated that there are other suspects apart from the 10 individuals arrested on December 2, 2016.

"Earlier today, at around 1:00 AM [Western Indonesia Time], at a flat in Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta, [the Police] has arrested an individual under the initial of MH, also known as HT," Martinus said on Thursday, December 8, 2016.

Hatta Taliwang was Born in Brang Rea, West Sumbawa on February 17, 1954. Hatta was a foster son of late Army General Abdul Haris Nasution. Hatta was a student activist and was the Chief of the Muhammadiyah Student Council from 1997 until 1978.

Hatta was one of the 50 figures who signed the Deed of Establishment of the National Mandate Party (PAN). Hatta was also a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) fraction for the 1999-2004 period.

After quitting the DPR and no longer a member of PAN, Hatta disappeared from the political world. However, he once made a controversial article published on online media titled "Waspada Politik Cina Raya" (Beware of Great China Politics).

In his writing, Hatta quoted references on the attempt made by the People's Republic of China to expand its empire until Indonesia.

Hatta also expressed criticism towards policies made by previous President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's (SBY) government.

Back in 2014, Hatta sent an open letter to the DPR to summon SBY for suspected of being not transparent about Indonesia's debts. Together with an organization called the National Committee to Save the People, Hatta once urged for a special assembly to topple SBY.
