TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Inactive Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama will stand trial in blasphemy case on Thursday, December 8, 2016. As many as 13 prosecutors, eight from the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) and five from Jakarta Prosecutors’ Office, have prepared the indictment notes.

“The trial is scheduled for Thursday next week (December 8, 2016), we will read out a seven-page long indictment notes,” said one of the 13 prosecutors, speaking on condition of anonymity, as published by Koran Tempo on Monday, December 5, 2016.

Jakarta Prosecutor's’ Office Information Bureau chief Waluyo told Tempo on Sunday, December 4, that the trial will be organized by the AGO. “All by the AGO, [we] only provide assistance,” he said.

The AGO handed over the dossier of Ahok’s blasphemy case on Thursday, December 1. Public prosecutors had completed the case dossier after police investigators handed over the suspect and 51 items of evidence.

Having been handed over as the suspect, Ahok has not been detained by the AGO. He has been charged under Article 156 and Article 156a of the Criminal Code on blasphemy. Ahok is not charged under Article 28 (2) of Law No. 11/2008 on Information and Electronic Transactions (UU ITE) as reported by the plaintiff.

The Deputy Attorney General for General Criminal Conduct, the Attorney General’s Office, Noor Rachmad said that prosecutors have concluded that Ahok will only be charged under Article 156 and 156a of the Criminal Code based on the facts revealed in an examination into case dossier submitted by police. “Prosecutors are convinced that the articles have covered the contents of the case dossier.”

Ahok was named as the suspect by the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) on Wednesday, November 16. He has allegedly committed blasphemy during his speech on the Seribu Islands on September 27.

Ahok has said very little about the issue. He only expected that his case would be resolved soon. “In order for me to get back and provide better services for the people of Jakarta,” he said on Saturday, December 3, 2016.
