TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Forum for the Environment (Walhi) has condemned the use of Car Free Day for political arena by several political parties during the 'Kita Indonesia' parade on Sunday(4/12).

"The Car Free Days should be used for activities related to the environment, sport, art, and culture. Unfortunately, it is tainted with political activities by several political parties. It clearly violates Regional Law Number 12 of 2016," said  Zulpriadi, Walhi Campaign and Program Manager in Jakarta.

For the record, in the beginning of the program, two political parties flag, the National Democratic Party and the Golkar Party, were seen among the crowd.

Zulpriad considered that such a situation could disturb the people who came to the Car Free Day for recreation or doing exercises. He added other violation found during the program are the presence of a stage in the area near Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, the use of  a generator set that is not smoke free, the people who step on the grass and the garbage found in many places.

The Jakarta provincial government tends to be unfair in enforcing the regional law as they gave permit for this program, Zulpriadi said.
