Thousands March from Istiqlal to Monas Ahead of Jakarta Rally

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Thousands of participants of the Jakarta rally have headed towards the National Monument (Monas) area from the Istiqlal Mosque, Muslim organization Persatuan Islam Majalengka chapter official Dede Muhammad said.
“We are heading towards Monas, we will hold prayers there while waiting for the [noon] Friday prayer,” Dede told Tempo this morning at the Istiqlal Mosque parking lot in Central Jakarta.
Dede added that he and his entourage would perform Friday prayer and istighosah (mass prayer) in Monas. “All will be held in Monas,” Dede said.
Dede and Co. came from Majalengka by 10 buses, there are rougly over 500 of them. They departed yesterday at around 9 pm and arrived at 3 am in Jakarta.
Asked about when they would leave Jakarta, Dede said that they would see how the rally goes. “According to schedule, if we are not going to perform [mid-afternoon] Asr prayer we can go home [after the rally],” he said.
After peforming early morning fajr prayer, rally participants headed towards Monas. They were divided into groups, some of whom brought flags.
