TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Inactive Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama expects the blasphemy case, in which he has been named as the suspect, to be resolved quickly. “Thank you for the coverage,” Ahok said on Thursday, December 1, 2016. “I’m asking for your prayer, for the process to be just, open, and end swiftly, so that I will have more time to serve the Jakartans better.”
The National Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) named Ahok as the suspect on November 16. He has allegedly violated Article 156 (a) of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 28 (2) of Law No. 11/2008 on Information and Electronic Transaction. Ahok has allegedly insulted Islam in his speech on the Seribu Islands on September 27. In a Youtube video, he made reference to surah al-Maida, verse 51 of the Quran.
Ahok’s defense lawyer Sirra Prayuna, has made a statement on the handover of his client's case dossier from the National Police to the Attorney General’s Office. “This noon, we have concluded the handover of the case dossier under the name of the suspect, from Police investigators to the Attorney General’s Office,” said Sirra Prayuna at the AGO in Jakarta on Thursday, December 1.
