TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of the Legal Information Center at the Attorney General's Office, Muhamad Rum, stated that the prosecution team decided not to detain the inactive Jakarta Governor, Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, as the suspect in a blasphemy case.
According to them, Ahok had been cooperative throughout the process of the inquiry, investigation, up to the handing over of his case file.
“Especially [since] Pak Basuki has been imposed a travel ban which applies to this moment,” Rum said on Thursday, November 1, 2016.
Another reason, Rum explained, is that there was no arrest made by Police investigators. Other than that, the article that is used to charge Ahok has alternatively formed. One of it is the Criminal Code Article 156 with the maximum of 4-year imprisonment and or Article 156a with a 5-year imprisonment.
Earlier this morning, investigators from the Police Criminal Investigation Agency have handed over the suspect along with 51 evidence to the Attorney General as the second phase of the process. Rum could yet confirm when would Ahok’s case be handed over to the North Jakarta District Court. “As soon as possible, it could be today, tomorrow, or within a week," he added.
