TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Oil Palm Producers Association (Gapki) will hold the world's biggest annual oil palm conference, the 12th Indonesia Palm Oil Conference (IPOC), in Bali next week.

Chairperson of IPOC 12 Mona Surya said this year's conference will have a theme 'Harmonization between Market, Market and State Interests '. The IPOC will review these social aspects to show how the oil palm plantation sector is playing its role in alleviating poverty.

"There are six million households whose livelihoods depend on the oil palm plantation sector. That means there are more than 24 million people who are living from this sector," Mona said in a written statement Thursday, November 17, Bisnis Indonesia reported.

Mona hopes that through positive campaigns the public will be able to see how strategic the role this sector plays in the national economy, as it is a commodity sector that contributes the most forex reserves.

"The export contribution is US$18.5 billion, the biggest contributor to the national export forex reserves," Mona said.

The 12th IPOC and the 2017 Price Outlook are a forum for business players and shareholders, CEO and executives, as well as policyholders to discuss strategies issues in the sector.

The event will be attended by a number of ministers and university speakers as well experts on local and global economies as well as world commodities. It is expected that some 2,000 people from 36 countries will participate in the event.
