TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia will hold the 11th ASEAN Finance Ministers Investor Seminar (AFMIS) on November 15 in Jakarta. The event is aimed at attracting investment to Southeast Asia.
“AFMIS is an annual event where ASEAN ministers meet with investors, both within and outside the region, to promote ASEAN as an attractive investment destination,” Fiscal Policy Agency chief Sauhasil Nazara told a press conference Thursday, as quoted by Antara.
Suahasil explained that AFMIS 2016 will adopt the theme ‘ASEAN: Dynamic, Resilient and Inclusive Growth”. It will highlight investment opportunities in Southeast Asia, explore financial market development and ASEAN economic potentials compared to other developing market.
The event will be participated by roughly 300 participants, comprising 250 domestic, regional and global investors as well as 50 delegates of Southeast Asian nations.
The event will raise three issues namely infrastructure, energy and commodities as well as tourism, all of which play a significant role in boosting regional economy to reach its potential.
“ASEAN is a dynamic region, resilient and is expected to grow inclusively, in the sense that growth will bring prosperity to all of its member states,” Suahasil explained.
Despite global economic slowdown, ASEAN GDP in 2015 hit roughly 2.5 trillion US dollars, boasting a solid economic growth at 4.7 percent. In 2016 and 2017, the region’s economic growth is projected to reach 4.5 percent and 4.6 percent, respectively.
Intra-ASEAN trade accounted for 24 percent of the bloc’s total trade volume. ASEAN’s main trade parterns are China (15.2 percent), Japan (10.5 percent), European Union (10 percent) and the United States (9.3 percent).
Foreign direct investment (FDI) into ASEAN skyrocketed from 86 billion US dollars in 2007 to 120 billion US dollars in 2015.
