TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu emphasized that there would not be any change of policy in Indonesia’s defense sector prior to Donald Trump’s win in the U.S. presidential election. Trump’s triumph had been predicted to add security tension in Asia-Pacific.
“Don’t bring that matter here (to Indonesia), don’t give us more problems,” Ryamizard said on Friday, November 11, 2016.
The former Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (TNI-AD) is certain that there would not be any significant influence after the U.S. presidential election took place. He says that there are no special gestures being taken in order to secure conflict-prone regions, such as the South China Sea.
The inter-ASEAN nation’s tension will always appear in the region, especially about regional claims. “Nothing is special. Was (Trump’s win) astonishing? (Is) he an angel?” Ryamizard said. He emphasized that Indonesia will become unrivaled as long as the citizens stay united.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also mentioned that they will not change Indonesia’s political stand towards the U.S. post-presidential turnover. According to the Ministry's spokesperson Arrmanatha Nasir, Indonesia welcomes Trump’s election.
He doesn’t want to comment any further following the number of controversial policies that was said by Trump in his campaigns. Arrmanatha said that the situation in a campaign would be different to when it goes to the office.
Donald Trump had earlier said in his presidential campaign that he would reject Muslims entering the U.S. He also mentioned a plan to build a wall throughout the US-Mexico border to prevent illegal immigrants in entering the States.
