TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government on Thursday, November 10, 2016, in Jakarta released the 14th policy package focusing on the e-commerce roadmap, which is expected to boost the expansion and improvement of community economic activities.

The announcement of the 14th policy package was made by Coordinating Economic Minister Darmin Nasution and Communication and Information Minister Rudiantara.

"The package is aimed to boost the expansion and improvement of people's economic activities across Indonesia in an efficient and globally-connected manner, so that the economic activities can reach further and wider," Darmin said on Thursday, November 10, 2016.

Darmin hopes that the e-commerce roadmap will boost new creations and inventions in the economic sector among young generations. The roadmap is also expected to facilitate e-commerce businesses and provide strategic direction and guide to the acceleration of Electronic-Based National Trading System implementation in 2016-2019.

Darmin added that the roadmap is also expected to prioritize and protect small, medium, and startup businesses.

Darmin revealed that there are at least eight aspects covered in the policy package, namely funding, taxation, consumer protection, human resource education, logistics, communication infrastructures, cyber security, and executive management establishment.

Minister Rudiantara added that the aspects covered in the policy package were prepared in a discussion involving 12 ministries and institutions, including Bank Indonesia (BI), the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and even the e-commerce businesses association.

"The government makes policies for players. Therefore the players are involved since the beginning," Rudiantara added.

Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, who also attended the announcement, said that the policy package was an anticipation to keep up with the e-commerce development.

"A presidential regulation is being prepared, and we will launch it in the near future. Indonesia aims to be the largest digital economy country in Southeast Asia by 2020," Pramono said.
