TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Earlier today, November 5, 2016, President Joko Widodo held a closed meeting at the State Palace. Those who attended the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Human Rights Wiranto, National Armed Forces (TNI) Commander General Gatot Nurmantyo, National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian, and other ministers, After the meeting, the President held a press conference. Here is the content of his speech:

We appreciated the aspiration expression process through the rally which was conducted today with orderly and peacefully. We thanked the ulama, kyai, habait, and ustadz who lead their people so that the rally went orderly and peacefully until dusk. However, we deplored the incident after isya which should had been dispersed but then turned into a riot, and we saw here that there were political actors who were taking advantage of the situation before.

I have ordered the vice president to welcome the representatives of the protesters accompanied by the Minister for Political, Legal and Human Rights; Minister of State Secretary;Religious Affairs Minister; Cabinet Secretary Minister; National Police Chief; and the TNI Commander. In the meeting it had been conveyed that there will be a firm, swift, and transparent legal process towards Basuki Tjahaja Purnama.

Because of that, I ask fellow protesters to go back home, to your own regions with orderly. Let the state apparatus work to resolve the law enforcement process.

And last, I appreciated the work of the security forces who had conducted persuasive approach in taking care of the situation so it can be in condusive state. I hope that everyone will calm down and take care of their neighbourhood until the situation are safe and sound.

Thank you

Wassalamualaikum wr.wb.
