TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bekasi District`s Fisheries and Maritime Agency, West Java, has recorded the shrinking of mangrove forests in Muaragembong and Tarumajaya since 1997 and each year they shrink up to 1,000 heactare in each subdistrict.
In the past, mangrove forests in Bekasi District stretched to 10.481,15 hectare and keep shrinking by the year, Fisheries and Maritime Agency Chief Wahyudi Asmar said on Saturday (29/10).
He stated that data show that there are seven villages that have abrasion, but out of seven, three villages sustain the worse damage in Muara gembong, namely Pantaimekar, Pantaibakti, and Pantaibahagia villages.
When the tide comes, the height of the wave reaches two meters, he said.
