TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bandung City Government through Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises, Industry, and Commerce (KUKM Indag) Agency has told all restaurants in Bandung to meet the requirements of halal certificate and label.
"We urge restaurants and culinary industry to process halal certificate,” Bandung KUKM-Indag Agency Head Eric M. Attaurik said in Bandung on Friday (28/10).
Eric added that halal certificate is a facility provided for tourists as a form of reassurance.
"International tourists such as those from the Middle East and other Moslem countries demand reassurance that the products they consume are halal," he said.
Eric expects that by 2017, all restaurants in Bandung will have halal label.
Yet, he admitted that Homemade Food Industry (PIRT) label as one of requirements to apply for halal label is complicated to process.
However, the Agency has coordinated with Health Agency and Indonesia Ulema Council (MUI) and halal label can be obtained by using PIRT application receipt.
