TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) chief Comr. Gen. Suhardi Alius claims that attention should be given to Indonesian citizens who has returned from a country in conflict.

According to him, the government has to begin taking terrorism preventive measures.

"So far, we have always been taking corrective actions,” he said at the State Palace on Friday (28/10).

BNPT, along with 17 ministries and institutions have begun making preventive approaches. For an example, his agency involves former commanders of jihad terrorists who have repented to take part in de-radicalization program.

This method, he continued, is considered more effective to supress acts of terrorism or radicalization.

De-radicalization preventive steps, he said, have been reported to President Joko Widodo.

Suhardi also claimed that PresidentJokowi supports BNPT’s agenda to take preventive measures against terrorism.

In addition, Suhardi and President Jokowi also discussed about  BNPT reinforcements. Such reinforcements, Suhardi said, are related to procative law enforcement principle that Terrorism Act has not covered.

"It is called repression in prevention” Suhardi stated.

He added an example that there should be a regulation preventing people from going to countries in conflict.

However, such reinforcements have not been translated into ammendment of Terrorism Act due to terrorism article in the revised Criminal Code (KUHP).
