TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Badminton Association Central Executive Board (PP PBSI) chairman will only be contested by two candidates, namely Gita Wirjawan and Wiranto following the closing date of registration on Thursday, October 27.
Selection Team chairman Fuad Basya in a written statement received by Antara news agency on Friday said that registration has been closed and will be followed by verification process, which is scheduled for Sunday, October 30.
“Upon registration, both candidates claimed that they each had the same number of support at 18. Whereas there are only 34 provincial executive committees [pengprov]. It means that there are executive committees who support the two candidates,” he said.
Gita Wirjawan is an incumbent candidate who running for another term, having garnered support from 18 provincial executive committees. Registration was opened on October 17. Nine days later, along came Wiranto who claimed to have secured the backing of 18 provincial executive committees.
Fuad said that verification process will touch on several issues, which include the endorsement. The regulation requires that endorsement must be proven by signatures of the chairman and secretary of the PBSI provincial chapter.
“The selection team has no power to decide who will and will not make it through [the selection process]. The decision will only be made later in a hearing,” Fuad said.
