TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has joined hands with cooperate with eight companies to finance the renovation of Hotel Indonesia (HI) roundabout’s water fountain which will cost Rp28 billion ahead of the Asian Games 2018.
Ahok had earlier invited 16 companies to chip in through corporate social responsibility (CSR) scheme.
However, only eight companies operating around the HI roundabout have welcomed his proposal, namely PT Bank Central Asia, PT Plaza Indonesia Realty, PT Wisma Nusantara International, PT Grand Indonesia, PT Sinarwisata Lestari (a subsidiary of Sinar Mas Group), PT Indofood Sukses Makmur, PT Astra International and PT DREI Indonesia.
The CSR scheme will be adopted because the Jakarta administration’s budget will primarily be allocated to subsidize health and education programs through the Jakarta Health Card (KJS) and Jakarta Smart Card (KJP). “We need the CSR to be more focused [on KJS and KJP],” he said Thursday at the City Hall.
Jakarta Parks and Cemetery Office head Djafar Muchlisin said that the eight companies will design the water fountain revamp. The companies will be responsible for the maintenance of the water fountain for 12 months once an agreement is signed.
A representative of the eight companies, Sinar Mas Group managing director Gandi Sulistiyanto Soeherman, has expressed his delight over the prospect of their collaboration with Governor Basuki to renovate HI roundabout. “It is not only symbol of Jakarta. It’s the symbol of Indonesia,” he said.
