TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Laode Muhammad Syarif said that President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has returned three gifts or gratification he received from Rosneft, a Russian private company, to KPK. “That is a graft and we appreciate that the President had reported it to the KPK,” Laode said to Tempo, Friday, October 28, 2016.
He said, what had Jokowi’s done must be followed by other state officials. After receiving the gratification report, he went on, KPK will assess the value of the objects. He said KPK will also decide whether the gifts would eventually become state property or Jokowi’s personal property.
The three gifts were paintings, a complete tea set, and a placard. The items were handed over by the Head Secretariat of the President Darmansjah Djumala to the KPK. Darmansjah said the three items were sent gradually by Rosneft. They were not sent to Jokowi in person but through Pertamina.
Darmansjah confirmed that his visit to KPK was under the instruction of President Jokowi. Although he is not sure about the value of the items, he estimates that they are of high value.
Darmansjah refused to comment when asked if the gratifications are related to the project that is conducted by the government.
