TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) urged the government to provide compensations for victims of a terror attack that took place at Jalan M.H. Thamrin in Jakarta in January 2016. The request was made by the prosecutor during a trial of the suspect involved in the attack, Fahrudin, at the West Jakarta District Court.
“The compensation was proposed by the LPSK, so that victims will be compensated,” LPSK deputy chairman Edwin Partogi Pasaribu said in a press release on Thursday, October 27, 2016.
According to Edwin, the law enforcement should not be limited to the imposition of sanctions against the perpetrator of the attack.
“The law enforcers, particularly the panel of judges, must consider losses suffered by the victims,” he added.
Edwin hopes that the panel of judges would grant the appeal for the compensations. He suggested that Fahrudin’s trial could be a momentum for the authorities to compensate victims as the revision to the counterterrorism law is being proposed. He also hopes that compensation for victims would be covered in the law.
Edwin revealed the LPSK has also initiated medical, psychological, and psychosocial rehabilitations for the victims.
“Rehabilitation is important because victims suffer physical injuries and trauma that needs to be treated,” he added.
The LPSK currently provides protections for nine Jakarta attack victims, consisting of a widow, a police officer, and seven others.
