TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - Tangerang Police Sector implemented a strict operational standard for their personnel following the police attack incident. Tangerang Deputy Chief of Police Erwin Kurniawan said that currently, the on-duty field officer must carry a weapon.
“All personnel must carry a gun,” Erwin said on Tuesday, October 25, 2016. He said that the new policy is part of the revision on police member’s safekeeping, especially the ones that are on field assignments.
Other than carrying weapons, Erwin said, on-duty police members must work in a two-man unit, so they can look out for each other.
Law enforcement agencies presume that terrorist group ISIS was behind the attack that happened on Thursday, October 20, 2016. Three members sustained injuries, one of them was a chief of police sector office.
Sultan Azianzah, the perpetrator of the attack, is said to be affiliated with the radical group Daulah Islamiyah in Ciamis, West Java.
On 05.30 a.m. Thursday morning, Sultan left his parents' house carrying a backpack. On 07.10 a.m., Sultan attacked police officers at a police station in Cikokol, Tangerang, Banten.
Besides swinging his dagger, Sultan also threw two pipe bombs, which, fortunately, did not explode.
When he was dying after getting shot by the police, Sultan confessed that he was the messenger of an Iraqi caliphate, Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, who is also an ISIS leader.
