TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Wianda Pusponegoro, VP corporate communication of state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina, said that the company faces three challenges in equalizing fuel prices in all regions.

“The first, because there is no official distributor of Pertamina,” she said in a discussion on energy at the Press Council Building in Jakarta on Sunday, October 23, 2016.

Second, Wianda said that geographical issues are faced by border regions, including Papua and North Kalimantan, which can only be reached by plane.

The third issue is limited fuel infrastructure in the regions. She said that Pertamina is currently focusing on addressing the issues.

“We have established premium diesel fuel agents there; the prices are even lower than that of Java, the applicable prices are non-Java prices, meaning that premium is traded at Rp4,650 per liter and diesel fuel is traded at Rp5,150 per liter,” she said.

Wianda said that second solution from Pertamina is to deploy specially designated aircraft to transport fuel.

Pertamina is aiming to procure three aircraft to carry fuel, one for North Kalimantan, one for Papua, particularly for mountainous regions e.g. Tolikara.

“They will be used for continuous supply [of fuel] to people in the regions,” Wianda said.
