TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono or SBY will open up about the Fact-Finding Team (TPF) reports on the murder of human rights activist Munir.
On his personal account @SBYudhoyono, Susilo tweeted on Monday, Oct. 24, that he will explain the measures taken by his administration regarding the issue throughout 2004-2009.
“In the past two weeks, [I] saw intense media coverage and public discourse about the findings of TPF of Munir,” Yudhoyono tweeted.
He added: “We will re-open all documents, records and our memory, what was done by the government in the prosecution of Munir’s case, we will not only [re-]construct the follow up on the findings of the TPF of Munir, but also what the government did since November 2004.”
Yudhoyono said that human rights activist Munir died on September 7, 2004, en route to Amsterdam. SBY was a presidential candidate at that time. According to him, Munir’s wife Suciwati met him three weeks after his inauguration as president.
“Less than two weeks before the meeting, the TPF of Munir had not yet been formed, we sent Police Investigation Team to the Netherlands,” he noted.
“We will soon reveal other measures taken by the government and law enforcement agencies. I want people to know the real situation.”
SBY explained the reason behind his reluctance to comment on the findings of the TPF of Munir’s death.
“I have opted to restrain myself and not to be reactive in response to many accusations. It’s a profound, sensitive issue. It is also about truth and justice,” he said.
He added: “We will explain it in 2-3 days, it must be based on facts, logic and of course truth.”
