TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - South Sulawesi Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Frans Barung Mangera stated that a member of Gowa Police`s criminal detective unit was caught red-handed when he was accepting money suspected as illegal levy. "The money is alledgedly related to a criminal case," Barung said on Saturday (22/10).
The apprehended police personnel ranks brigadier with the initial EWS (29). ESW was arrested in Gowa precinct’s interrogation room at 1 in the afternoon.
Barung explained that the arrest was led by Chief of South Sulawesi Provost Division Comr. Awaluddin and five of his personnel. The team also serves as a task force intended to eradicate illegal levies in Gowa Police precinct.
Barung further added that the team already suspected a case of illegal mining in Gowa Dictrict. As a result, when a field inspection was carried out, the team found the detective accepting money from the suspect, the mine owner with the initial AR. “We also declared AR as a suspect,” Barung further added. From the arrest, the team confiscated 5 million rupiahs as an evidence.
