TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan will use dry port to shorten dwell time.

The use of dry port is considered as a solution to the lengthy dwell time.

"The isssue of dwell time is interesting, I have just figured out the solution. When there is a visit, dwell time drops to 1-2 days, but once the visit ends, it goes back up again. Why don’t we use dry port," Luhut said in press conference event “Jokowi-JK Two Years in Office,” in Bina Graha, Jakarta on Friday (21/10).

Dry port is a land station serving the same function as stations on ports.

Luhut stated that the use of dry port will be initiated on December 1 starting from Cikarang. Gradually, all process of loading and discharging will be done on lands, including doing the paperwork.

The service in dry port will be designed as in Pizza Hut fast food restaurant that will deliver and transport the goods. By doing so, in addition to reducing dwell time, the service will also cut traffic as much as 30 percent.

Other than Cikarang, dry port will be used in Bogor, Surabaya, Semarang, Makassar, and Medan.

"As a result, we will witness dramatical changes in the next two to three years, so I expect dwell time will be reduced to just 3.3- 2.7 days," He added.
