TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned oil company PT Pertamina EP Asset 1 has clamped down 64 illegal oil wells in the past few years.
PT Pertamina EP Asset 1 Ramba Field staffer Suharjono said on Wednesday that the company has shut down illegal wells with the help from the National Armed Forces and Police personnel.
“The efforts are made as Pertamina’s measures to reduce and suppress crime, particularly illegal oil theft by both drilling and tapping in Sumatra,” Suharjoni said before participants of education media of PT Pertamina EP Asset 1 in Jambi, as quoted by Antara.
Meanwhile, PT Pertamina EP Asset 1 Public Relation staffer Arina during the education media discussion with reporters in Jambi said that Jambi has suffered a lot of illegal oil tapping because it has a 290km-long oil pipeline from Jambi’s Tempino to Plaju in South Sumatra.
Pertamina has installed devices to detect oil thefts from the pipeline, which so far has succesfully reduced illegal oil tapping.
