TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta’s Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama appreciated Ruhut Sitompul's decision to resign from the House of Representatives (DPR) to support him in the Jakarta Gubernatorial Election.

Ahok applauded Ruhut's decision because not many people were willing to take the risk just like what Ruhut did. Ahok added that Ruhut had already enjoyed comforts and benefits from being a member of the House of Representatives. "But [Ruhut] wants to witness the new Jakarta get into shape," Ahok said.

Ruhut had submitted his resignation letter and will be officially relieved from his position as a member of the House of Representatives on October 28, 2016. Ruhut also admitted that he had informed his plans to the Amir Syamsudin, Chief of the House of Representatives' Honorary Council.

Instead of supporting governor candidates endorsed by the Democrat Party, Ruhut prefers to support Ahok and Djarot for the 2017 Jakarta Gubernatorial Election.
