TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Economic Minister Darmin Nasution said that strengthening the national economic fundamental is an important move to ease the global pressure that could hamper the country’s economic growth.
"We will continue to improve what we have achieved to this date, so that [the economic growth] will reach 5 percent," Darmin said in Jakarta on Wednesday, October 19, 2016.
Darmin revealed that the government's short term plans included improvements in infrastructures, human resources, and food productivity in a bid to maintain the economic sustainability.
"Whether the global economy will continue to experience a slowdown or not, we will try to add more improvements, not only in infrastructures, human resources, and food, but also in the manufacturing industry and others," he said.
Darmin also hopes that there will be medium-term and long-term endeavors to improve the investment and export performances that were directly affected by the global economic slowdown.
"Even though we can't hope that exports will be better, but the slowdown is getting smaller. Our investment sector shows an increasing trend, as a result of deregulations and efforts to convince the market," Darmin explained.
With various efforts to maintain the economic fundamentals, including launching economic policy packages, Darmin said that the government could expect a positive economic growth amid the global economic slowdown.
