TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Delegations from five different countries meet to discuss inter-religious issues and culture in Yogyakarta on October 18, and October 19, 2016. Five countries that have sent their delegations are Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia (MIKTA). The discussion is the first ever to be held since MIKTA was established in 2013, and is expected to deliver a message of peace across the globe.
Deputy Foreign Minister A.M. Fachir said that the discussion was initiated by Indonesia as part of the country's efforts to eradicate terrorism, radicalism, and extremism.
"In the future, cooperation between MIKTA countries is expected to strengthen, [displays] strategic values, more inclusive, and could involve all stakeholders, not only the Foreign Minsitry. All participants are expected to share their experience," Fachir said during the opening of the MIKTA Interfaith and Intercultural Dialog at the Royal Ambarukmo in Yogyakarta on Tuesday, October 18, 2016.
The dialog, which adopts a theme of "Strengthening solidarity, friendship, and cooperation through Interfaith and Intercultural dialogue", is expected to allow MIKTA member states to share experiences, and promote tolerance and respect in a multicultural and multi-religious society.
