TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Foreign Minister Retno L.P Marsudi held a bilateral meeting with Poland’s Under Secretary of State for Development Cooperation, Africa, and the Middle East, Asia, Economic Diplomacy and Human Rights H.E. Joanna Wronecka on the sidelines of the 21st ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand.

Polish President Andrzej Duda is slated to visit Indonesia next year in a bid to step up relations with Indonesia.

“Both countries have agreed to enhance connectivity, including cooperation between their respective flag carrier, i.e. Garuda and LOT Polish Airlines. The cooperation is expected to result in a direct route from Warsaw to Jakarta or Denpasar,” an official statement of the Foreign Ministry stated, as quoted by Bisnis Indonesia on Monday, October 17, 2016.

International issues will also be discussed in the meeting, such as the present situation in Palestine. Both countries are committed to supporting the Palestine.

Poland is Indonesia’s third largest trade partner in Central and Eastern Europe behind Russia and Ukraine, with a trading volume of US$539.71 million and Indonesia having US$252.18 million of trade surplus.

Poland’s investment in Indonesia reached US$6.4 million, which is spread across six projects in 2014. Polish tourists arrivals in Indonesia was 16,832 in 2014.
