TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has announced a warning of extreme weather events which will take place from October 17 until October 19.
In the next three days, Tropical Cyclone Sarika will hit the West Philippine Sea and Tropical Cyclone Haima will occur in the Pacific Ocean, east of the Philippines. “Consequently, light and medium rainfall is expected to hit Indonesia,” the BMKG official web page wrote on Monday, October 17, 2016.
The BMKG analyze that Tropical Cyclone Haima has occurred yesterday at 7 pm Western Indonesia Time (WIB) at Northwestern Pacific Ocean off the Eastern coasts of the Philippine, latitude 11.2 degrees and longitude 138.7 East, or around 1,410 kilometers northeast of Biak. The cyclone moves towards the northwest at 8 knots (15km) per hour.
In the next three days, Tropical Cyclone Haima will occur in Northwestern Pacific Ocean off the Eastern coasts of the Philippines, latitude 13.9 degrees and longitude 134.6 East, or around 1,690 kilometers north of Biak. The cyclone will move towards the northwest at 11 knots (20km) per hour.
The cyclones can result in heavy rain in Aceh, North Sumatra, Riau Islands, Bengkulu Banten and Papua. Whereas Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung, Greater Jakarta, West Java and West Kalimantan could be hit by heavy rain and lightning as well as strong winds and even tornadoes.
