TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Police Chief Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) Comr. Gen. Ari Dono Sukmanto said that Police chief General M. Tito Karnavian has instructed him to find the document containing investigation results of the Fact-Finding Team (TPF) for Munir Said Thalib’s murder case.
“Police chief has told me. I have aksed the chief who has it, where has it gone missing? Because there has not been any report [about the missing document],” Ari said Thursday at the Bareskrim building, Central Jakarta.
According to Ari, police personnel will gather information about the missing document.
The Fact-Finding Team (TPF) for Munir was established to investigate the cause and actors behind the human rights activist’s death. Munis, the founder of Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras), died of poisoning on board an Amsterdam-bound plane from Jakarta on September 7, 2004.
The court has sent flag carrier Garuda pilot Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto to jail for involvement in Munir’s murder. However, Munir’s family and rights activisits are convinced that a more influential person was responsible for the murder.
President Joko Widodo has expressed his commitment to solving Murnir’s murder case. He has ordered Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo to find the TPF’s investigation document.
Former member of TPF for Munir’s case Hendardi said the document had been handed over to the then-president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. However, the State Secreatry and Cabinet Secretary have denied having the document.
