Police Foil Illegal Levy Practices at Transportation Minister

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police conducted a search at the Transportation Ministry on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, based on a report of illegal levies allegedly collected by Ministry’s officials.
“We search the 6th and 12th floors [of the Transportation Ministry Office]. President Joko Widodo also came for an inspection,” Tito said at the Transportation Ministry on Tuesday, October 11, 2016.
Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Mochamad Iriawan led the search with several Transportation Ministry’s officials.
“There will be explanation from my superior and the Transportation Minister. The president will also came [for an inspection],” Iriawan explained.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi revealed that he had received the report on illegal levies a month after he took the office.
“Over the last month, we found that there were illegal levy practices at the Transportation Ministry for permits issued by the Sea [Transportation Directorate General] and the Land [Transportation Director General]. Therefore, we set up several teams to conduct investigations and researches. Based on the investigations, we found evidences of the illegal practices,” Budi said.
