Police Discover 2 Hectares of Marijuana Field in Bengkulu

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bengkulu Kepahiang Resort Police claimed to have accidentally unveiled a marijuana field measuring 2 hectares in the area of Bukit Sanggul, Seberang Musi Subdistrict, Kepahiang District, Bengkulu, on Tuesday, Oct 4.
“When we were chasing down a motorcycle thief, we discovered one package of marijuana that originated from a field in the area,” Kepahiang Resort Police Chief Adj.Senior Commissioner Ady Savart said Wednesday, Oct 5.
The police have initially captured six people who allegedly stole a motorcycle on Oct 3. They also noticed that the perpetrators were carrying marijuanas.
The perpetrators admit to have obtained the marijuanas from Bukit Sanggul, Air Selimang Village, Seberang Musi. Police immediately checked the area and turns found a marijuana field, said Ady.
The location of the field can be traveled 6 hours by foot from the edge of Bukit Sanggul forest and cannot be traveled by vehicles. Police are still searching for the owner of the land.
Bukit Sanggul is a protected forest area measuring approximately 68,000 hectares. Most of the forest were damaged due to encroachment and mining activities. The mining area in Bukit Linding Bukit Sanggul is estimated to reach 11,000 hectares.
