TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java is not yet free from Rabies, despite the fact that Governor Ahmad Heryawan has aimed to eliminate the disease by 2018.
In 2016, two cases of Rabies are still found in West Java.
Head of Veterinarian Department in West Java, Arif Hidayat, said that the two cases are found in Sukabumi.
“A dog bite in Sukabumi has killed two people ," he said.
"Rabies are infested in several cities namely Cianjur, Garut, Bandung District, and Tasikmalaya,” said Arif. Some other cities that bare cleared from rabies are Bogor, Depok, Bekasi, Cirebon, Indramayu, Purwakarta, and Karawang.
Arif said that the virus, contracted through animal's saliva, is found in dog (90 percent), cat (6 percent), monkey (3 percent), and other animals, including rodents.
