TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java Governor, also the chairman of the National Sports Week (PON) XIX/2016 organizing committee, Ahmad “Aher” Heryawan said he would not yet claim that West Java’s contingent were the overall champions of PON despite them having already garnered 192 gold medals as of Tuesday.
“We’ll see whether or not West Java will win the overall title, there are still one day left. Medals are still up for grabs untiltomorrow,” Ahmad Heryawan said Tuesday at PON XIX Media Center in Bandung, as quoted by Antara news agency.
He said that it was too soon to declare West Java as the overall champion of PON XIX but he applauded West Java athletes for winning more gold medals than any other contingents.
“And it would be difficult to catch [West Java] indeed, but we’ll see. But I’m also hopeful,” he said.
