TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Houses at Bukit Duri Village had began to be demolished. As many as two backhoes had been deployed to do so.
Demolition began at 7:30 AM, backed by roughly 400 joint personnel. Bukit Dury Village head Mardi Youce said houses that had already been emptied would be the first to be demolished.
“It’s all been emptied,” he said Wednesday. He said that 313 of 365 head of household in the area had already moved to low-cost apartment.
Meanwhile, those insisting to stay in the area had been voicing their demand and holding a peaceful protest at Tongtek Bridge. They argued that South Jakarta administration had violated the law, citing the class action proceedings at Central Jakarta District Court.
“The government is heartless,” one of the protesters screamed. Social activist Jaya Suprana was present among the protesters to give his support.
One of Bukit Duri residents Lani said he had to move after a backhoe demolished his house. “I have no other option but to move,” she said. However, she said that she didn’t want to move to low-cost apartment. “I will first pack my belongings.”
