TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police has named four individuals as suspects for allegedly facilitating Indonesians to join the Islamic State (IS) in Syria.
"In Syria, they participated in IS activities," National Police spokesperson Insp. Gen. BoyRafli Amar said at the National Police Headquarter in South Jakarta on Wednesday, September 28, 2016.
Boy revealed that the National Police previously arrested three individuals, AMF, A, and W, on September 22, 2016. Police later developed the investigation into the case by questioning the three suspects and arrest another individual serving as a facilitator.
"His initial is AR, also known as Abu Fauzan, who was arrested at 8:00 AM [Western Indoneia Time] in Bekasi," Boy added.
According to Boy, the group had arranged four departures of Indonesians to Syria. Boy explained that Abu Fauzan was specialized in preparing people before their departures.
"He arranged the preparation and gave motivations to people, including women [before their departures to Syria," Boy said.
The suspects also allegedly provided the recruits with training on lying techniques in case they are arrested, including how to escape from authorities. The National Police has charged them with violations of the Law on counterterrorism.
