TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Benny Soetrisno, deputy chairman of trade at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), said that Indonesia’s export target is expected to increase by 500 percent.
“[The increase in exports] is expected to be achieved in the next 10 to 15 years,” Benny said during an event themed “Trade and Export for All” held in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 27, 2016.
The export value is expected to amount to US$750 billion by 2025 to 2030 from US$150 billion set by the end of 2016.
“Kadin has proposed a road map to achieve the national export target,” Benny revealed.
According to him, the government and business owners need to take joint steps to achieve the target.
“There are five main pillars to boost exports, namely an increase in the number of exporters, export product diversification, export market expansion, export price increase and the development of an export ecosystem,” Benny explained.
He added that the exporters serve as the major contributors to boost the country’s exports.
“However, the number of exporters has been declining,” he said, adding that the condition was due to a lack of competitiveness and financial capacity suffered by Indonesian companies.
Chairman of Kadin’s permanent committee for export development Handito Joewono said that an increase in the number of exporters must be realized by considering the quantity and the quality. Handito revealed that Kadin would encourage thousands of exporters, comprising existing companies and potential entrepreneurs, to carry out export activities.
Handito added that Kadin would provide trainings for individual exporters in order to boost their turnover.
“We will work with universities in several cities to increase the number of exporters and improve their qualities. They will formulate trainings on exports in order to establish a sustainable program,” Handito said.
