BNPT Distributes Energy Saving Lamps to Boarding Schools

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) has handed over thousands of energy saving lamps to a number of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia as part of the "Pesantren Bersinar" (Bright Islamic Boarding School) program conducted in an effort to improve prosperity in Islamic boarding schools.
"The cases of radicalism and terrorism are often caused by social and economic inequality," said BNPT Chief Comr. Gen. Suhardi Alius at theUlul Albab Islamic School in Sukoharjo, Central Java on Monday, September 26, 2016.
According to Suhardi, improving prosperity can help to reduce radicalism and currently, the BNPT has distributed one thousand packages of energy saving lamps.
"Islamic boarding school can save a lot [of money]," Suhardi said.
Suhardi explained that by using energy saving lamp, Islamic boarding schools can reduce their monthly electricity bills from Rp 4 million to Rp 400,000, for example. Suhardi added that the spare amount of money can later be used to start a business.
The distribution of energy saving lamps is carried out primarily in areas considered to be prone to terrorist activities and radicalism, including Surakarta and its surrounding areas, Central Sulawesi and West Nusa Tenggara.
