TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation recently raised the status of Mount Bromo from 'alert' to 'standby'because of the volcano's increasing seismic activity.
Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, Chief of Data Information and Public Relations at the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), said that the volcano's new alert status have been applied starting on Monday, September 26, 2016.
"The consequence of the escalated status is that people living around the area of Mount Bromo and visitors or tourists are forbidden from entering an area with a 2,5 kilometer radius from the crater of the volcano," Sutopo said on Monday, September 26, 2016.
Sutopo said the BNPB had recorded constant tremor around the volcano vicinity from September 1 to September 25, 2016. Thundering sounds can also be heard coming from the volcano's crater followed by a thick amount of smoke during the same period.
