TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta gubernatorial candidates Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono-Sylviana Murni have prepared their strategy ahead of 2017 election. They are optimistic of progressing into the second round of the election to eventually beat incumbent candidates Basuki Tjahaja Purnama-Djarot Saeful Hidayat. “As many as 56 percent voters [in 2017 Jakarta election] are women,” said Agus-Sylviana campaign committee chief Nachrowi Ramli on September 25, 2016.
Nachrowi said that Agus, who is young and attractive, can win over women voters. While Sylviana is the only woman to have registered as candidate. “That alone should win [over women voters],” said the head of Jakarta Democratic Party regional leadership council.
Whereas Jakarta United Development Party (PPP) regional leadership council chief Abdul Aziz said in order to defeat the incumbent cadidates, the coalition who endorse Agus shall first and foremost secure their respective constituent base vote.
Aside from Democratic Party and PPP, Agus-Sylviana are also backed by the National Awakening Party (PKB) and the National Mandate Party (PAN). “Each of the political party has its own constituent base. We will secure their vote in the next two months, first and foremost,” he said.
Earlier, IndoBarometer executive director Muhammad Qodari said the pairing would have the lowest electability compared to their counterparts. “Agus would have the lowest [electability if a survey is conducted now],” he said on Saturday.
