TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - At least five villages in two districts in Sampang, East Java, were flooded on Sunday (25/9).
East Java Deputy Governor Syaifullah Yusuf said at 5:30 am, the water level reaches 70 to 100 centimeters.
Areas affected by the floods are Kamoning village, Pasean village, Tanggumung village, and Dalpenang sub-district.
In addition, the floods, which reached a height of 40-60 centimeters, flooded Jalan Imam Bonjol and Jalan Raya Panggung.
"Floods also reportedly reach Rongtengah district," said Syaifullah.
The floods were caused by heavy rain in two days. As a result, Kemuning river overflew.
For the record, Sampang geographically located 10 centimeters below sea level.
East Java Provincial Government through the East Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has sent read-to-eat food.
Sampang and East Java BPBD have also deployed officials to anticipate worse floods.
"We expect the height of the flood water will continue to rise until this afternoon," said Saiful.
In addition, three public kitchens in Jalan Semeru, Jalan Pahlawan, and Village Pasean have been prepared to serve the people who need help.
Syaiful also urged Sampang residents and motorists passing through the flood-affected areas to be vigilant.
