TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Finance Minister Mardiasmo said his office is currently considering extending the first period of the tax amnesty program, which boasts the lowest rate of retribution fee of 2 percent. The plan was proposed by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).
“We’ll see. The Minister [Sri Mulyani Indrawati] will take a closer look at all of the proposals, to find the best solution,” Mardiasmo said Tuesday at the office of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs. “Basically, we will seek the best solution. We will listen to any suggestions made.”
Mardiasmo said, the government will have to take some issues into consideration before agreeing to extend the first period of the tax amnesty program, one of which is regulation issue. “To extend it [the period] we have to amend the Law. It shoud be executed with due care,” he noted.
Kadin chairman Rosan Roeslani had asked yesterday for the government to extend the first period of the tax amnesty program to December. The extension would be needed since the target of Rp165 trillion in tax amnesty retribution fees is unlikely to be achieved, according to Rosan.
Mardiasmo said the government will optimize the implementation of the tax amnesty program in accordance with the existing laws. He said the tax amnesty program has been going well under current regulations. “It has been going well as expected,” he noted.
Mardisimo pointed out that the program has seen increased number in retribution fees this week compared to that of last week. “Last week, it was Rp10 trillion, it has now hit Rp30 trillion, a Rp20 trillion increase. In the mean time, we will focus on [what we have] to get better results.”
