BKPM to Take Measures Against Google on Tax

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Investment Coordinating Board, Thomas Lembong, said that he plans to take measures against Google. "We will follow the updates," said Thomas Monday, December 19, 2016.

Google is known for not registered as a business entity in Indonesia, despite the fact that it gains profit in the nation. Therefore, it is difficult for the government to collect taxes from the company, as it is not registered. 


Google Indonesia's central company in the Singapore has also declined investigation inquiry from the Tax Directorate General. 


Thomas said that BKPM needs to be careful in taking measures. "We afraid that if we are being too harsh, they will escape to other countries," he said. 


He added that Indonesia relies on investment to help boost economy. But he said that the government will not take losses in tax.
